Gujarat National Law University – Silvassa Campus (GNLU – S) has been established by resolution of the Governing Bodies of Gujarat National Law University which has been empowered under the Gujarat National Law University Act, 2003 as amended by the Gujarat National Law University (Amendment) Act, 2022. GNLU – S is being provided with full support and co-operation by the Government of Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.

The purpose of establishing the GNLU – S is to further the object of the GNLU which has been provided under Section 5 of the GNLU Act which states “The objects of the University shall be to advance and disseminate learning and knowledge of law and legal processes and their role in national development to develop in the students and the research scholars a sense of responsibility to serve society in the field of law by developing skills in regard to advocacy, legal services, legislation, parliamentary practice, law reforms and such other matters; to make law and legal processes efficient instruments of social development; and to promote interdisciplinary study of law in relation to management, technology, international co-operation and development.” GNLU – S is to promote quality legal education in the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu and provide the students of the UT with skill development and job opportunities.

The majority of the population of the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu belongs to the various tribal groups. To boost their morale and holistic development of the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, the campus of GNLU at Silvassa is established. It shall help the people of Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu to grab the various opportunities in various fields. The opportunities shall not be restricted to the legal domain only, due to the inter-disciplinary approach adopted by the GNLU. Further, the reservation for the people of the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu shall help in the overall development of the Union territory.
